Savoury Pork Turnovers

- 1/2 lb250 gLean Ground Canadian Pork
- 1 Tbsp15 mLcanola oil
- 1 cup250 mLfinely chopped onion
- 22cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp5 mLgrated fresh ginger
- 2 tsp10 mLground coriander
- 2 tsp10 mLchili powder
- 1/2 tsp2 mLcumin
- 1/4 tsp1 mLdry mustard
- 11apple, peeled, cored and chopped
- 1/2 cup125 mLwater
- 1 tsp5 mLsalt
- 14 oz397 gpackage frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 11egg, slightly beaten
Directions
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add pork, onion, garlic, ginger and spices. Cook and stir, breaking up pork, until onion is tender and pork is no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Add apple, water and salt. Reduce heat; cover and simmer about 20 minutes. Stir and mash apple into mixture. Cool completely. On a lightly floured board, roll out one piece of puff pastry to a 12″/30 cm square. Trim edges. Cut into 16 3″/7.2 cm squares. Place spoonful of filling on half of each square. Fold over to make triangles. Moisten edges with water and seal. Crimp edges with a fork. Repeat with remaining piece of puff pastry. Brush turnovers lightly with beaten egg; pierce each with a fork. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 400ºF (200ºC) until lightly browned, about 20 minutes.
Note: Always cook ground pork to well done.
