The Alberta Pork Ambassador Program
Alberta Pork's Ambassador Program was launched on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 . It is a strategic program of social sustainability to support rural communities and all Albertans, and to emphasize pork as a renewable resource industry. It is designed to achieve the following goals:
- To build strong relationships between Alberta pork producers and communities.
- To build a climate conducive to community prosperity and industry sustainability.
- To respond to issues in a timely and proactive manner.
The more than 2,000 pork producers in Alberta launched the Ambassador to ensure their industry helps keep rural communities strong. By supporting communities and getting directly involved with local activities, the Ambassador Program will send the clear message that Alberta pork producers want communities to prosper because they are also our communities. We live and work there too.
The Ambassador Program is made up of three pillars:
Community action
A new custom-designed Alberta Pork Special Events Cruiser available to work with community special events. The Cruiser is a cargo van and stainless steel mobile barbecue.
The "Pig Rig" is a mobile information display. The 24-foot trailer houses a nursing sow and piglets and will be used to explain pork production to urban audiences.
Local advocacy
Training and special communications efforts so that pork producers participate in discussions of local issues in a proactive, thoughtful way. And to ensure communication occurs in local communities to encourage informed decisions.
Building an information base
- Developing the research and information base to ensure the pork industry is sustainable - economically, environmentally and socially.
- Ensuring information is communicated to producers, industry and the public.
